Drilling Caissons is a very common technique in the foundation construction industry. As well as stand-alone piles, it is often used extensively in Secant Walls and as part of other foundation techniques.
The technique involves drilling a hole lined with a removable casing, inserting reinforcing or a steel pile in the centre, and pouring concrete to fill the hole before pulling the liner (casing) out. Caissons can be over 100 ft deep, but are usually 50 to 80.
Bermingham has extensive experience installing caissons utilizing conventional crane-mounted equipment or our fleet of Euro-style drill rigs. Diameters have ranged from 300 mm to 3000 mm.
