In September of 2012, Bermingham was contacted by Rankin Construction to suggest a pile driving plan for the foundation of the St. Catherines Spectator Facility. In the heart of downtown St. Catherines, the facility will provide a new home fo the Niagara IceDogs (OHL) as well as a venue for other sporting and entertainment events.

Bermingham was selected from two teams of contractors. Fortunately Bermingham was involved in both teams. As the lead on the pile driving option and as the management lead on the alternate.

The pile driving began in January 2013 and finished in mid April of the same year. In total approximately 350 HP310x79 (HP12x53) piles were driven for the arena foundations. Bermingham Construction utilized a Terex HC165 Crane with 130 feet of Vertical Travel Leads and a B5505 Diesel Hammer.

The hard and efficient work of Bermingham was recognized in a statement from Rankin Construction. Tom Rankin (CEO) said some people thought the premium for building atop the canal fill could be as high as $10 million. But the cost of driving the pilings on this job was “roughly $2.5 million,”

The City of St. Catherines is now looking ahead to the completion of the project which is estimated to be late summer 2014.
